A solo show, curated by Arsalan Naqvi, showcasing the works of Babar Azeemi at Revivers Galleria was well received.
Arsalan Naqvi shares, “What strikes me about Babar Azeemi’s art is that his work shows the evolutionary continuity of Miniature art which is not influenced by Western art. He repeatedly re-applies a new experiment with oil paint as medium on paper. It is not easy to work so transparently on a sensitive surface like paper. The feminine beauty in Babar’s work expresses his poetic mood and depth of his detailed expression. Looking at Babar’s painting, it seems that the artist has adapted a Ghazal into a painting.”
Babar Azeemi paints the quintessential Eastern beauty. The delicate pointed nose, large almond shaped eyes, luscious locks peeking from under the dupatta, adorned in heavy ornate jewellery, the women he paints make a statement.
Babar shares, “the concerns I want to express through my artwork, is enriched aesthetic satisfaction, feel the fragrance of colors, beauty of composition and harmony of elements. I always try to combine the linier quality of the traditional past and experimental challenges of the present time.”
He further shares his thought process and inspiration behind his work, “I have tried to paint celestial Eastern beauties through female figure with intricate motives , dangling earrings, beads of stone, henna painted figures , birds , musical instruments and many more. I always paint layer by layer, by overlapping and scratching the surface, as well as numerous techniques to make it contemporary. These things make me curious and inspire me to explore more and more, to create art which depicts unique expression of translucent and fragile nature of women while retaining a hint of authenticity.”
His work is beautiful and bold and truly stands out!
